TKAM Post #2

Because of when I am doing this post, I am unable to include the vocabulary words for this section.

Journal #2
Chapters 4-7
Perspective: Scout.

Dear Diary,
This first year of school seems to drag on for ever and ever. It seems like it will never end. But there was actually something interesting that didn't involve bugs crawling out of Burris' hair. On my way home from school, I saw that there was a piece of Wrigley's Double Mint stinking out from a hole in a tree. At first, I was kinda scared to eat it, because it was in one of oak trees in the Radley Place's lot. After I licked it, and I didn't die, I knew it was okay to eat it. It was really good, but then Jem made me spit it out. Kinda made me mad, but the flavor was fading anyway. After that, I also found some really nice polished pennies. I ain't seen any pennies as nice as these were. I felt kinda bad taken 'em, but whose would they be anyway?

After that, Dill finally came back from Mississippi. We were really excited to see him after so long. But when we were first playing, it was actually really scary. We decided to first play by rollin' in the tire. I got the first turn, but it was actually a bad thing that I did. I went straight into the Radley place's lot. It was a really terrifying experience, with all that nausea and confusion. We decided after that that we weren't gonna play with the tire anymore. After a while, we made up a whole play starring the Radley's. I felt scared doing it, because I was afraid that somebody would notice and we'd get a beating. Atticus almost caught us doing the play, so we had to stop for a while. I got lonely after that, because they started to play by themselves, and would only get me if they needed a third person. But it was OK because Ms. Maudie Atkins let me talk with her sit on her porch. She would tell me some stories, but that wasn't as good as playing with Jem and Dill. I eventually got to play with them, but I had to what they told me to do. And they had the craziest thing for me to do. They were trying to write a note to Boo Radley, and I was keeping watch. Then Atticus caught us. It was a close one, he almost gave us a beatin' I think. He said we had to keep to our own business.

On the last night Dill was with us, we had a very crazy adventure. Dill said that we should "Go for a walk". But nobody in Maycomb just "goes for a walk". I knew that he had a very sneaky idea in mind. They were gonna try and see Boo Radley in his own house. They were just gonna take a little peep through window! I tried to stop 'em, but they just wouldn't listen. I decided to go with them, but I think maybe I shoulda not. Jem was just about to look in the window, when I saw the shadow of a man. Just when it reached Jem, we ran for it, and the sound of a shotgun rang in our ears. When we got to all of the neighbors standin' around the Radley place, they were all wonderin' what happened. Mr. Nathan Radley was apperently tryin' to shoot a black man. But then, they were all wondering something else. Where were Jem's pants? They got caught in the Radley fence. But Jem was able to come up with a great lie about us playing strip poker. We all knew that Atticus wouldn't believe it for long, so Jem went to go get the pants back. I didn't want him to, because I was afraid Mr. Nathan would shoot him. Later I found out he didn't have any trouble. They were sittin' on the fence, almost like they were waiting for him. Along with some other thing later through the year, like the gray twine and the soap dolls waiting for us, I have some wonders about whats happening around here. Hopefully we'll find out soon. We won't be able to get any more presents though, because Mr. Nathan blocked up the hole in the tree. I have a feelin' we'll find out who did it anyway soon enough.
