Perspective of Dill
Well, that was a whole lot o' fun. I was just spending the summer at Miss Rachel's house, when I met Gem and Scout. They were just a whole 'nother thing then what I'm used too. I'm wearing all of these nice clothes and stuff, and they're just dressed up in a couple of rags. That doesn't matter though, because how much fun they were was a compromise for that. I wasn't saying that it felt like I had condescended to their level. I wasn't really judging 'em at all, but they did call me short. It was a whole lot of fun talking o them about all of the picture shows I got to see after getting the 5 dollars from that picture contest. I did think that I heard them call me a little eccentric, but that's okay. I don't mind being a little a part from the normal person.
It wasn't so scary when we went up that Boo Radley's house. I wasn't scared at all. But I could tell that Gem was. He was just pullin' up excuses like havin' to take care for Scout. But eventually, he decided to do it anyway. I think that's I offered him my Gray Ghost for his two Mark Twains. There's no way he would have had the guts to get him out of his house, he probably would have cried or something. I did see though, that when he was running away from the house, that the blinds had one shutter open. But then it closed. I wonder if that was the malevolent Boo Radley himself? That'd be kinda scary- wait, no it wouldn't be... Never mind.
So I got a message from Scout after I had gone away back to Meridian. She told me all about her mean old school teacher Mrs.Caroline. Appearently, she was getting all mad at Scout just she could read! I mean, I could read probably better than her, and my school teacher never got mad at me! Hearin' that kinda irked me. Can't believe there'd be a teacher that wouldn't want ya to read. She also told me about other stuff in her first day, like that really dirty Burris Ewell, and how a bug crawled right his hair! I could never think that you could have bugs livin' in your hair like that. Anyway, I'm glad that eventually Atticus said that Scout read even if her mean old teacher didn't want her too. I hope I get to go back to Maycomb soon and try and get that old Boo Radley to come out!
