Quotes and Questions #4

Quote #1: "She held out a hand to him. He reached back. She quickly pressed a Haitian twenty-dollar bill into it turning away before the others could see." Page 194 Tante Zi

This quote shows how bribery can easily make a soldier not follow the rules. Tante Zi knows that even though the gangster was a cold blooded killer, he'll easily submit to bribery. This helped her and Joseph escape the country, into the safety of the U.S. This quote shows how dangerous situations can easily be turned around if you have street smarts.

This quote shows a lot about Tante Zi. She has the street smarts she needs to survive, but she is also a caring person. She is a very smart person all around.

Question #1: If the gang is looking for Uncle Joseph, why would they let one of his associates go away so quickly?

Quote #2: "They came here with no papers and tried to get in-"
"They have papers," I tried to explain.
"I'm sorry," he said, " but I have two flights coming in."

This quote shows the troubles that Uncle Joseph and Maxo have trying to come into the U.S. They were trying to come in legally, but they were denied that ability. They were very qualified to come into the U.S.,but because of the laziness of not only the phone operator but the whole company, they were slowed down, and eventually sent to the like prison, Krome. All because of some gang members trying to kill them. They must be having a terrible week.

I've had the same kind of experience that Maxo and Uncle Joseph were having. Because of the laziness of some phone operators, I had to wait on a phone line for 30 minutes. I know it's not even close to the experience they're having, but I know the feeling of being missed up by a phone operator.

Question #2: 'Why do you feel that the phone operator was so lazy for such a big matter?
