Writing prompt C.
I think that Jem and Scout's lives would have changed very much if they had their mother in their lives. The first thing that I think would be different is the way they go on adventures. I think if a mother was around to keep them in shape, that she would be more strict on how they're always going out on adventures. A mother would never let her children go out to the town in the middle of the night, the way they did when Atticus was dealing with that one mob. She would have been able to tell that they were leaving and would stop them. If you think about, this wouldn't make their lives any better or worse. It's all a matter of perspective. If you look at it from Scout's view, you would be able to tell that she wouldn'tike not being able to go out on adventures. But, if you look at it from Atticus' view, you'll be able to see that he would think that it would be better. He doesn't want his kids sneaking out all of the time when he's not able to catch them.
Another would be the way that they act. Some might say that Scout would act more feminine. I think that she might act the same. The way that Jem has talked about their mother so far, their mother doesn't sound like a kind of person like Aunt Alexandra. She doesn't seem like she would be a restricting person that would always be trying to get Scout to act more like a lady. But, there is a possibility that she would act more feminine with a mother. A motherly influence may cause her to be more like the normal crowd, to act more lady like. I believe that Jem wouldn't acy to differently, though. It's very clear that he's already acting like a normal boy, enjoying football, and being like a gentleman to ladies. This would make the story a lot more boring,
though. This is why they have Scout act a little tomboyish, and other things.
I believe that this would make the story a much more different enviroment. I'm scared to say that it would make the book much worse, it would just be a totally different kind of story. If there was a mother present in the book, she might not want Atticus to defend Tom Robinson. She might feel scared for his safety, or she might just not want him "lawing for Negroes" as many other of the characters in the story are saying. She might act like Aunt Alexandra, so Scout wouldn't want her around, or she might be a bit of a sweeter character, like Atticus. Overall, I think that the story is much better without them having a mother. Without a mother, they're able to have much better adventures, like sneaking into the Radley's backyard, or Jem destroying Mrs. Dubose's bushes. Then again, a mother might be totally oblivious to these things, like Aunt Alexandra. But overall, I believe that the story is good as it is.
